It all started when...

"I reached the architect and jewelry designer Elena Kapompasopoulou, a few days before the exhibition LOOT: MAD about Jewelry, at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) in New York. She is the only Greek included in the finalists this year and it made her feel proud. Elena arrived in the city in 2010 for her master studies. After her graduation she started working at the architectural firm Cooper Robertson (who collaborated with the Renzo Piano Workshop for the new building of the Whitney Museum) and in 2014 she launched, a series of architectural jewels under the brand Cement Chemistry. Inspired by New York, she used a paradox material- concrete, in a more sculptural form. “Cement is appreciated by architects but people are not familiar with it” she explained. "The jewels go beyond the conventional use of the material and bring it closer to the human body." The first collection was purely geometric and the second –that was presented at LOOT- was based in four pastel Pantone colors. "New York is a special metropolis," she says. Adolescent, demanding and untamed." The jewelry are available through the exhibitions of the platform “A Jewel Made In Greece”. Custom orders are also accepted".

"Elena Kapompasopoulou was born in Greece and is an architect. After Italy, the Netherlands and China, the past five years she lives in New York. Despite her profession, she spends time evolving different concepts. Who said concrete can only be used in construction? Elena has a big faith in the material she uses for her jewelry. The hand-made pieces and her special brand have an innovative, experimental style".
